IconPreventative Care

We believe prevention is the key to a long, healthy life for your pet. Our wellness care includes comprehensive physical exams, vaccines, microchipping, parasite prevention, nutritional guidance, and other lifestyle-based wellness strategies. Whether your pet is a new puppy or kitten or a senior entering their golden years, our team is here to guide and support every stage of their journey.

A healthy mouth means a healthier pet. We provide complete dental care for dogs and cats, including dental exams, professional teeth cleanings, digital dental X-rays, and extractions when needed. Because dental disease can impact your pet’s comfort and overall health, we make oral care a top priority, so your pet can keep smiling for years to come.

Our experienced veterinary team offers a wide range of pet surgical services in Hampton, including spays and neuters, mass removals, and soft tissue procedures. Every surgery is performed with advanced monitoring and individualized pain management, all within the safety standards set by our AAHA accreditation. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and recovery are always our top concerns.

When your pet isn’t feeling like themselves, fast and accurate answers make all the difference. We offer in-house diagnostic testing, including bloodwork, urinalysis, and digital X-rays. For more complex cases, we also work closely with trusted reference labs to ensure the clearest picture of your pet’s health.

Laser therapy is a gentle, noninvasive treatment that helps reduce pain, inflammation, and healing time for a variety of conditions, from arthritis and post-op recovery to soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. It’s quick, painless, and well-tolerated by most pets, offering a safe way to enhance comfort and mobility without medication.

Our Story

Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital has proudly served the Hampton community since 1956, delivering trusted, compassionate care to generations of pets and the people who love them. Originally founded by Dr. Allen Wright and Dr. Larry Frost, the hospital passed to Dr. Michael and Beverly Silkey in 1980, who helped grow the practice into the vibrant, AAHA-accredited hospital it is today.
As one of the longest-standing animal hospitals on the Peninsula, our team brings more than 100 years of combined veterinary experience to every visit. We’re proud to have cared for countless family pets—many across multiple generations—and we work hard to maintain a neighborhood feel where clients and patients alike are greeted by name.
At Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital, you’ll find a team that’s here for your pet like they’re one of our own. From routine care to surgery to boarding, we’re honored to be Hampton’s home for veterinary care that feels personal, professional, and heartfelt.

What Makes Us Different

At Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital, we treat your pets like part of the family. From preventive care to surgery and everything in between, we go the extra mile to make every visit feel comfortable, reassuring, and rooted in trust.

AAHA Accreditted

We’ve proudly maintained our AAHA accreditation since 1992, meeting and exceeding hundreds of rigorous standards in veterinary care, cleanliness, safety, and service. Fewer than 15% of veterinary hospitals in the U.S. earn this distinction, and we’re honored to be one of them.
